Saturday, March 14 at 11 a.m.
Our first 2026 Preservation Next Tour is of the Neutra-designed Sale House. The tour begins with an introduction from David Coffey, Neutra expert and owner of the Neutra Davis House. After the tour, attendees are welcome to mingle at Brentwood Country Mart for a no-host lunch gathering. Due to the secluded nature of the house, there is limited parking that requires some walking to arrive on-site. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes and utilizing rideshare services or carpooling.
About the House
Richard and Elsa Sale, an engineer and artisan craftsman, commissioned Richard Neutra to design their modernist home, which integrates art and living. The 1960 home stuns with a skylit entry gallery, soaring ceilings, and a sheltered brick terrace positioned to protect a view of the Pacific. Glass walls surround the structure, letting the mood of the house adapt to the seasons. Tour attendees will find that many Neutra-era features remain, including original furniture, built-in cabinetry, and bathroom tile. Elsa Sale’s mosaic accents can be found throughout the house and within the pool.

He is a former Bakersfield Museum of Art board member and currently serves on the Exhibitions Committee.
